Lately, however, when I look around I'm noticing a shift, a change in climate.
When my group was laid off three years ago we were like a frightened mob,
flailing about looking for something to hold on to – we were in a panic.  But when
I talk to my friends who are losing their jobs today, they seem much calmer.
While they're still concerned about finding a place to land, they're more confident
that one will be there for them.

It's as if our collective confidence has increased, as if we're beginning to
understand that we're not as fragile as we thought we were.  We're emerging
from this storm with new skills, new resources, with a new resilience we didn't
have before.

I see this new ease in my life too.  The work I've been doing, coaching, writing,
exploring what it means to be "me", has settled me down.   I'm learning to stay
grounded when I feel tossed around, to stay connected with who I am and want
to be in the world.  I'm learning that there's an easy place in every situation, even
those that seem fraught with turmoil.

"Letting Go" it was the title of my last update and it's really what this one is about,
too.  I'm learning, we're all learning, that we have the strength and resources to
let go of what no longer is working for us.   And many of us have discovered, to
our delight, that who we've become as we m
ove into our new lives is a stronger,
better version of the person we left behind.

About Melinda
October, 2009
There is a new ease in the air, feel it?

The last few years have been like a
tornado. Layoffs, the economy - it's as if
we lost our footing and were tossed
around in the wind like a bunch of rag
dolls.  We watched helplessly as our
jobs, our money, our stability were ripped
away from us.
